The great thing about research is you can (pretend to) be productive while procrastinating on all the things on your todo list. It’s so much fun!
The new series I’m writing takes place in a small mountain town where there are lots of festivals and fairs to bring in tourists and keep locals happy and proud of their town. But, I don’t want my fictional town to have boring events like a barbecue festival (or do I? That sounds delicious and… now I’m hungry!)
Here are just a few wacky festivals my research has discovered: (Hopefully some of these will inspires a few fun fictional festivals!)
- Duct tape festival (Ohio)
- The Chicken Show (Nebraska) featuring the world’s largest chicken dance!
- Broomcorn Festival (Illinois) A precision lawn mower drill team.
- Mothman Festival (West Virginia)
- A World of Faeries Festival (Illinois) This one sounds like fun!
- Gecko Fest (Florida of course!)
Have you heard about or attended any small town festivals? I’d love to hear about your experience!
